About Us: The Advised Traveler Team

Advised Traveler is a free trip-planning site run by a small, France-based team of travel enthusiasts. For each destination, we pull together the verified details you need on one page: where to stay, what to do, when to go, how to get around, entry requirements and health.

Why do we compile facts instead of telling you what to love?

Travel taste is personal. One traveler plans around museums, another around beaches, food markets or hiking trails, and a city one person raves about can leave the next one cold.

So we skip the hype. We give you facts, clear criteria and sources you can check yourself, and you decide what fits your trip.

What do we actually do for you?

A well-planned trip is far more likely to go well. Planning one, though, usually means bouncing between half a dozen websites, some only in the local language:

  • city and regional tourism boards
  • national weather services
  • local transit agencies
  • city government websites
  • the U.S. State Department’s travel advisories
  • health authorities such as the CDC

We do that legwork for you. We gather the information, cross-check it and lay it out clearly, with a link to every source.

How do we check our information?

  • Official and local sources first: the U.S. State Department, the CDC, tourism boards, national weather services and transit operators.
  • Cross-checking: when sources disagree, we say so. Anything we can’t confirm is flagged or left out.
  • Prices and hours: published only when they come from a reliable source, along with the date we checked.
  • Visible sources: listed at the bottom of every guide with links and the date we consulted them. The last-updated date sits at the top.
  • How we pick: neighborhoods, hotels and tours are chosen on stated criteria such as location, transit access, budget and cancellation terms, never on whether an affiliate link exists.
  • Tools: our work also relies on today’s most capable AI tools to help us research, cross-check and format information, and every fact links back to a cited source. Our team sets the method, regularly reviews published content and fixes any reported error.

We’re gradually reworking all of our guides with this method. If a guide shows its sources and an update date, it has already been reviewed.

Do we ever share personal favorites?

Yes, for places we know and love. We label them clearly as favorites and keep them as objective as we can. They add to the verified information and never replace it. We don’t claim to have visited every destination we cover.

How is Advised Traveler funded?

The site is free for readers. Part of our funding comes from affiliate partnerships: when you book through one of our links, the partner pays us a small commission, and your price doesn’t change.

We also run ads. We chose a high-quality, low-clutter ad network so your reading experience stays as smooth as possible.

Advised Traveler is free to use. If you find our content useful, you can support us by booking through our affiliate links: we earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Spotted a mistake?

Entry rules, schedules and prices change all the time, so always confirm requirements with official sources before you leave. If something looks wrong or out of date, let us know and we’ll check it and fix it.
