Where is it warm in November? From the US, the easiest sun is in the Caribbean and Mexico: Cancún and Punta Cana average 85°F, but November still brings showers there. For warm sea and almost no rain, Dubai is the safest bet (87°F, sea around 82°F). Mauritius is the driest tropical island on this list, while the Seychelles are hot but wet. Egypt, Jordan and Morocco pair mild, dry afternoons with sightseeing.

The figures below are climate normals published by each country’s national weather service and collected by the World Meteorological Organization. They are 20 to 40 year averages that describe a typical November, not the forecast for your trip. Each station is listed in the sources.

Closest to the US: the Caribbean and Mexico

Both are a few hours’ flight from much of the East Coast and the South. They are warm all year; the question in November is rain, which is falling but has not yet reached the dry-season lows of February and March.

1. Mexico: Cancún and the Riviera Maya

Cancún: 85°F in the afternoon, 73°F at night, 5.2 in of rain over 12 days, sea around 81°F.

Rain drops sharply from September and October, when Cancún gets more than 8.6 in each month. On November 1 and 2, Mexico celebrates Día de Muertos, the Day of the Dead.

Good to know: November is not yet a dry month in Cancún. February and March, with 1.8 and 2.1 in, are the safest beach months.

2. Dominican Republic: Punta Cana

85°F in the afternoon, 74°F at night, 4.6 in of rain over 11 to 12 days.

Temperatures barely change through the year. November is drier than October (6.0 in), but short tropical showers are still common.

Good to know: the Atlantic hurricane season officially runs until November 30. Its peak is mid-August to mid-October, so the risk is low in November, but not zero.

Dubai, Egypt, Jordan and Morocco: dry, sunny and comfortable

The driest places on this list. Afternoons are pleasant to hot, nights get noticeably cooler, especially in the desert and at altitude. For travelers from the US, these work best as a longer trip of a week or more.

3. United Arab Emirates: Dubai

87°F in the afternoon, 65°F at night, less than 0.1 in of rain, sea around 82°F.

November ends the extreme heat: the average high falls from 95°F in October to 87°F. It is the most reliable beach combination on this list, with water as warm as the Seychelles and almost no rain.

Good to know: afternoons are still hot. Plan outdoor sightseeing for the morning or late afternoon.

4. Egypt: Hurghada and Luxor

Hurghada: 81°F in the afternoon, 63°F at night, 0.1 in of rain, sea around 77°F. Luxor: 84°F, 54°F at night, virtually no rain.

November combines swimming in the Red Sea with bearable temperatures for the Nile Valley temples, where highs exceed 95°F from April to October in Luxor.

Good to know: in Luxor, the gap between afternoon and night is more than 27°F. Bring a warm layer for sunrise visits and hot-air balloon flights.

Aqaba: 81°F in the afternoon, 59°F at night, 0.1 in of rain. Amman: 69°F, 49°F at night, 1.1 in over 5 days.

Jordan gives you two climates in one trip: cool highlands around Amman and Petra, then mild weather in Aqaba on the Red Sea to finish.

Good to know: Petra sits at altitude, so its temperatures are closer to Amman’s. Pack warm clothes for a night in the Wadi Rum desert.

In Morocco, November suits medina walks and trips to the Atlas Mountains, with pleasant rather than hot afternoons.

Good to know: the Atlantic is cool in Agadir. It is a destination for sunshine and beach walks more than swimming. Bring a jacket for evenings in Marrakech.

Air and water are warm all year. In November rainfall is already significant, ahead of the wettest months, December (12.0 in) and January (15.9 in).

Good to know: with 16 rainy days on average, tropical downpours are part of the trip. They are often brief, but don’t count on clear skies every day.

Cambodia and Cape Town: two seasons turning

November is a transition month in both: the rainy season ends in Cambodia, and the southern summer begins in South Africa.

9. Cambodia: Siem Reap and Angkor

89°F in the afternoon, 72°F at night, 2.4 in of rain over 12 days.

Siem Reap is the gateway to the temples of Angkor. Rain falls off sharply in November: 12.0 in in September, 8.9 in in October, 2.4 in in November and 0.3 in in December, according to Cambodia’s Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology.

Good to know: early November can still be wet. For more reliable skies, aim for the second half of the month or December.

10. South Africa: Cape Town

74°F in the afternoon, 56°F at night, 0.6 in of rain over 5 days, ocean around 63°F.

In South Africa, November is late spring. In Cape Town it is one of the two driest months of the year, with January, far from the 2.7 to 3.7 in per month of the southern winter, May to August.

Good to know: the ocean stays cold and the wind is often strong. Think Garden Route, wine country and hiking rather than swimming.
