Brazil: The Energy of a Continent

Brazil is not just a country; it’s a continent unto itself. It is the land of excess: the Amazon, the green lung of the planet; the Iguazu Falls, a thunder of water on the Argentine border; and Rio de Janeiro, the marvelous city where the mountains plunge into the sea. But Brazil is above all a vital energy, a contagious joy of life expressed in music, dance, and the warm welcome of its people. Prepare yourself for an explosion of colors, flavors, and emotions.

Our Experience

For an off-the-beaten-path experience, explore the Lençóis Maranhenses in the Northeast. This desert of white sand dunes dotted with turquoise freshwater lagoons is a landscape unique in the world, almost surreal. A must-see between June and September.

5 Reasons to Pack Your Bags

  • Rio de Janeiro: Copacabana, Ipanema, Corcovado… One of the most beautiful cities in the world, vibrant and spectacular.
  • Nature on a Grand Scale: The Amazon for adventure, the Pantanal for wildlife (jaguars, caimans), and Iguazu for raw power.
  • The Beaches: Over 4,500 miles of coastline, from wild coves in Bahia to surf spots in Florianópolis.
  • The Culture: Carnival, of course, but also the colonial architecture of Salvador and Ouro Preto, and the modern art of Brasília.
  • The Gastronomy: Feijoada, Moqueca, Churrasco… a rich, diverse, and generous cuisine.

Where to Base Yourself?

From electric metropolises to colonial gems, here are the essential stops.

Brazil Rio Landscape

Logistics (Stress-Free)

Flight: 10h+

Direct flights from major hubs (NYC, Miami, London) to Rio or São Paulo. Plan for domestic flights for long distances.

Entry Req.

Passport valid for 6 months beyond stay. Check visa requirements; policies for US/CA/AU citizens can change.

Health

Yellow fever vaccine recommended (mandatory for Amazon). Bug spray is essential.

Budget

Currency: Real (BRL). Affordable daily costs, but internal flights can add up.

The Climate Puzzle

Brazil is massive, so the climate varies by region. The austral summer (December-March) is hot and festive.

  • Rio & South (December to March): Hot, humid, it’s summer and Carnival season. Perfect for the beach.
  • Northeast (September to March): Guaranteed sun, ideal wind for kite-surfing. Avoid April-July (rainy season).
  • Amazon (June to November): Drier season, ideal for wildlife spotting.
  • Pantanal (May to September): Dry season, perfect for seeing jaguars and other animals.

Our Tip

If you want to see the lagoons of Lençóis Maranhenses full, you must go just after the rainy season, between June and September. Afterwards, they dry up.

Getting Around & Sleeping

Transport

Flying is king for long distances. “Leito” buses (sleepers) are very comfortable for overnight trips. In cities, Uber is safe and very affordable.

Accommodation

From charming “Pousadas” (inns) to large chain hotels. The selection is vast. Try staying in a historic pousada in Salvador or Paraty.

Local Eats & Specialties

Brazilian cuisine is a tasty mix of Indigenous, African, and Portuguese influences.

  • Feijoada: The national dish. A stew of black beans and pork, served with rice, cassava flour (farofa), and orange.
  • Churrasco: Brazilian all-you-can-eat barbecue. Grilled meats served on large skewers.
  • Moqueca: A fish or shrimp stew with coconut milk, palm oil, and coriander, typical of Bahia.
  • Pão de Queijo: Addictive little cheese breads, perfect for breakfast or a snack.
  • Caipirinha: The iconic cocktail made with cachaça, lime, and sugar.
